He had put together a spreadsheet that he was using, but it wasn't quite helping him out. So he sent it to me to see if I could improve it. I'm going to show you the changes I made and talk to you a little bit about workbook design principles in the process. Let's take a look at the original file, which is right here. Basically, the way he had this set up is the first column had numbers one for each day of the month. Each column represented a day of the month. With each employee, you'll see here, he had several different employees. Each one had their own section, and within each section, there were three subsections because an employee could do more than one activity in a day. In this case, and for this employee, they only did one activity right here. But if you go over to this day, they had a chance to do two different activities. It was designed to help him keep track of his expenses and how much to pay each person for what they did. For example, if they did activity B, which is putting together these spoons, they got paid $0.9 for each pack they did. If they did 240 packs, their pay was $216 for that activity. There are a couple of things with this that I noticed were making it a little inefficient. First of all, there's one block for each employee.
